History

Pulmolink dates back to 1990, when husband and wife Derek & Gill Pike formed their own company; capitalising on Derek’s many years of experience in the medical equipment industry along with Gill’s administration skills and knowledge. They sought to offer high quality respiratory & monitoring products at competitive prices.

With this ethos, the company was proud to introduce two key manufacturers into the UK market; Medisoft s.a. of Belgium and BCI Inc (who are now a division of Smiths Medical).

In 1995, Gill and Derek’s son Rob joined Pulmolink, bringing his extensive sales and marketing knowledge with him. As key products from other brands were added to the range, the business flourished.

The success of all these brands enabled Pulmolink’s growth and burgeoning reputation; culminating in being awarded the UK respiratory community’s prestigious ‘ARTP Manufacturer of the Year award’ in 2011.

In 2012, Rob took over the reins as MD, with Gill and Derek stepping down from the day to day business of the company, while remaining on the board.

2016 was another important year for Pulmolink with the launch of our new mobile-friendly website, putting the company at the forefront of internet retailing. The site has allowed Pulmolink to showcase a wider range of products than ever before and for them to be viewed on the broadest range of platforms. An investment has also been made in ‘point of sale’ technology; enabling staff to securely connect to the website to sell items and process payments (cards, apple pay and of course good old fashioned cash) while out and about at shows and exhibitions.

In 2019, after 28 years of being based in “The Garden of England”, Pulmolink took the decision to relocate to a more central UK base on the outskirts of Bristol. Being only two minutes away from the M5 motorway, has allowed Pulmolink swift and easy and access to its many customer and friends, dotted all over the country.

Derek & Gill, the company’s founders, decided to retire from the board in 2020; Derek is now using his engineering expertise on his collection of classic cars and Gill, her artistic skills on her paintings.

The company is now located in a building with a fascinating history; built in the 19th Century, it was used as a brewery until 1912. It was then put to various uses over the years; becoming a workshop, fire station, a store for aircraft parts & a factory for making toggles for duffle coats! The Old Brewery’s present landlords, W4Co, took over the buildings in 1995, initially as extra premises for their own company. However as demand grew for office premises, they renovated the site and began to rent out several of the Brewery’s empty buildings. However, many of the buildings still retain their Victorian features, including Pulmolink’s own offices which has several original beams and a large post, embossed with one of the name of Geo. Adams & Sons, the original builders of the Brewery.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, Pulmolink was allowed to continue trading as part of the medical supply chain to our marvellous NHS. Despite the worrying and uncertain times it caused, Pulmolink has continued to provide its usual high standard of help & assistance to its many customers.
For 2023, Pulmolink would simply like to wish for good health and a return to normality for all.
